Observing the contrasting school experiences of the panellists on last week’s episode of Insight, one could be forgiven for thinking that the Australian ideal of a ‘fair go’ for all was all self-deception and no self-realisation. While non-selective public schools are apparently under-resourced and blighted by underachievement, private schools and selective public schools seem to provide supportive and aspirational educational environments conducive to academic excellence. Receiving emails that tell you have got things hopelessly wrong can be depressing. But emails that tell you have got things terribly right can be even more depressing: “Hello Mr Sammut, I have had your Geelong Advertiser article “MYTHS, LIES AND ADOPTION” pinned to my wall since printed in 2011. I am in favour of legalising gay marriage. This is my personal view, not the corporate view of the CIS. It is a view which many of my colleagues do not share. Despite this conviction, I do not think Bob Katter’s anti-gay marriage ads should be censored. Tony Abbott told the ABC this morning that his parental leave scheme is locked in: Well this is a policy that the Coalition is taking to the election and that’s the policy that will be implemented, come what may. I told Radio National’s Alison Carabine that he should rethink the policy. Listen here.
